Cricket update

After a very short first half term of the summer all teams have played two matches bar the under 15s who received a bye in the District Cup and are due to play Roundwood in the 2nd round by June 10th.

The under 12s have made a very good start winning both their District and County Cup 1st round matches. Captained by Callum Emmerson who has proved to be devastating with the ball in hand and a steady accumulator of runs with the bat the side face a tough challenge in the form of Verulam in the District Cup 2nd Round on Wednesday 8th June.

The under 13s were unlucky to draw St Albans Boys School in the 1st round of the County Cup and 2nd Round of the District Cup, the later tie postponed due to rain the Thursday before half term. In addition to fine contributions for their own side a number of this age group have stepped up and represented the under 14s, acquitting themselves admirably, showing the strength in this age group.

The under 14s were drawn against Verulam and Haberdashers in their Cup competitions and while performing well with the ball, especially at Habs where they had their hosts 53-6 at one stage, really need to improve with the bat. The under 15s, led by Mark Telkman, again performed well but were still a bit rusty in their losing performance to Tring in the County Cup.

Those sides still in Cup competitions have the next rounds to look forward to in the next week or so. For the others each age group has been entered into a friendly league with Marlborough, Townsend and Nicholas Breakspear. This is the ideal format to increase the amount of cricket played, without the pressure of cup matches and allow a greater number of the squad to be involved in matches.
